![]() On September 17 1862 about 5600 men died along this 800 yard Sunken Road in Antietam. In places the bodies were 4 to 5 feet thick. The blood ran like a river. About a quarter of the 23100 deaths that occurred on this bloodiest day of the American Civil war happened right here. Some say the battlefield is haunted.
